Mo te tunga About the Role
Our Cancer Psychological & Social Support Service team provides support to patients who are under suspicion of, or in treatment for recently diagnosed cancer (or recurrence thereof), and who carry their unfair share of difficulties that could jeopardise their treatment or their or their family / whanau's adjustment to the illness.

You'll be joining an experienced and dedicated team of three other social workers, three psychologists and a regional leader based near Christchurch hospital. Ideally, you'll have experience in a hospital / health setting with cancer patients, but this is not essential, however 3 + years of post graduate experience is.
Working with patients facing serious illness is a demanding but rewarding role and we hope to attract those who have a real passion for working in the area and who are motivated to help us develop a quality service.
Your core accountabilities will include:

Assessment of needs (situational, socio-emotional and cultural) and delivery of requisite support.
Liaison with all appropriate parties internally and externally.
Record keeping and communication to ensure both continuity of care and management of risk where relevant.

This role is a fixed term position of 32 hours a week.

To be registered by the NZSWRB and hold a current practising certificate.
The appointee will be an experienced practitioner, practicing ideally at step 6 or greater, on PSA MECA or equivalent.
Have completed a recognised B' level qualification in Social Work.
Provide evidence of tertiary, and previous social work experience.
Be available to travel as per CPSSS Service requirements, a full NZ driver's license is essential.
Work as part of the duty system and provide cover where and when the work demands within the Cancer Psychological and Social Support Service.
Be personally grounded with a calm professional disposition.
Provide evidence of a clear MRSA test and doctor's report.
Show a commitment to ongoing professional development.
