Social Worker – Allied Health UnitDunedin Hospital Permanent, full time (1.0 FTE), 40 hours per week Join a dynamic and supportive team. This team is committed to delivering a service of the highest standard.About The OpportunityThe purpose of this position is to provide a specialist social work assessment and planned intervention within the acute inpatient wards at Dunedin Hospital to facilitate patient discharge back into the community. You will work in one or more of the following areas: Cardiorespiratory General surgery Acute Orthopaedics and Neurosciences Medical and Acute Stroke Intensive Care Unit (ICU) You will be responsible for assessing the client's needs and assisting in their journey through the hospital. You will need a sound knowledge of elder abuse, family violence and child protection issues and be able to respond to challenging situations appropriately. You will be able to think on your feet, be experienced at working under pressure and be able to multi-task. You will be adaptable and flexible allowing you to work effectively with your clients and within the interdisciplinary team and a changing health environment.Mou ake | About youAs a social worker in this team, you will have sound social work knowledge and skills, be a team player with excellent communication skills and work cohesively as part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT).To be successful in this position, you will also need to demonstrate the following: Ability to think on your feet and be experienced at working under pressure whilst multi-tasking. Be registered with the New Zealand Social Workers Board (NZSWRB) and hold a current Annual Practicing Certificate. Preferably have experience working in an acute hospital setting. Strong understanding of social determinants of health and the impact this has on client health and social needs.
