Middlemore Hospital is the main hub for acute care and referral services.
As a teaching hospital of Auckland University, Middlemore Hospital caters for most medical and surgical specialties with a catchment area of around 550,000 people.
We are currently seeking a Renal / General Medicine SMO who is interested in joining our multidisciplinary department to cover various sabbatical leave over the next 24 months.
There will be a requirement to cover on call for General Medicine and the Renal service depending on which of our current SMOs is taking sabbatical leave at any one time.
The role will be a combined Renal and General Medicine Senior Medical Officer.
Our Renal Department comprises senior medical staff, junior medical staff and a full team of ward and specialist nursing and allied health staff.
The Renal service includes an inpatient ward, an acute 26 bed inpatient dialysis unit, 3 satellite dialysis units and 3 community houses.
The service delivers outpatient care including in-centre haemodialysis, home haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and outpatient dialysis and nephrology clinics.
We look after approximately 300 patients who we work up for transplantation and who are returned to us early after transplantation at an adjacent hospital.
Currently within our service we have 15 Renal Physicians, 4 Registrars, 1 Research Fellow and 2 House surgeons who work closely with our dedicated multidisciplinary Nursing and Allied Health team.
The posts offer a broad focus on patient care, research and education, within an innovative and friendly work environment.
The opportunity exists to undertake interventional and procedural work for those with aptitude and previous experience (Tunnelled lines, Tenckhoff catheter insertion).
Salary and conditions of service will be in accordance with the New Zealand ASMS Award Agreement.
Candidates should be eligible for vocational registration in New Zealand.
Essential requirements include FRACP or equivalent (with nephrology training).
