The Whakapapa whanau are a small but ambitious team, running year-round operations on the northern slopes of Mt Ruapehu. In winter, from June until October, this includes a world-class ski area. In summer, from December until April, this includes our summer sightseeing operation, heroing our iconic Sky Waka gondola. Each year we welcome hundreds of thousands of manuhiri (guests) to Whakapapa, many with life-long connections to the maunga (mountain) and surrounding region, some even third or fourth generation.
Our Ski Trainer will be a highly experienced and skilled professional responsible for elevating the expertise and performance standards of all instructors within the ski & ride school. Their role involves designing and implementing training programs aimed at enhancing teaching techniques, safety protocols, and guest service excellence. They work closely with instructors to identify areas for improvement, provide constructive feedback, and deliver specialised instruction tailored to individual needs.
Mo te tunga | About the role No two days at Mt Ruapehu are the same so you will need to adapt on a daily basis using sound teaching techniques. You can expect that you will:

You will maintain and push the standards of our team to ensure  an exceptional guest experience. Work through  teaching methods which consider the personal capabilities (age, ability to learn) of their guests and incorporate the actual situation on the ski area (weather, snow conditions and terrain). Provide efficient, polite and professional service to all guests. Provide up-to-date and accurate information to the public on products and prices and what they can experience on Mt Ruapehu Ski Areas As a trainer, you will bring a:
Minimum of NZSIA / SBINZ Level 3 or equivalent Co mmitment to great guest service Ability to build effective teaching and working relationships with a wide range of people Respond in a positive and proactive manner to feedback from supervisors/managers Maintain an approachable and co-operative persona with co-workers and guests A tolerance for uncertain market and weather conditions (particularly the weather conditions!) A flexible approach to rosters, guest needs and the direction of the  organisation A p ositive, fun and happy personality! Remuneration range – $33 - $38 per hour depending  on certification and experience.
If successful, you will be required to participate in a vetting process by the New Zealand Police.

The receivers continue trading the Company and are working on transferring the ownership of the Whakapapa and Turoa ski areas to new operators. On 18 December, DOC announced public notification of Pure Turoa Limited's concession application to operate Turoa ski area. The Receivers are continuing to work on the sale of Whakapapa.
