About Us
Are you looking for an opportunity to make a real difference in your next role?
At Basis, our purpose is to radically accelerate the clean-energy revolution - starting with smarter, safer, and more efficient homes. We're focused on improving experiences for people through the application of technology, data, and a deep understanding of human behaviour.

Basis is driven by purpose, real innovation, and ambition. We have a talented team spread across New Zealand, with a creative space by the beach in Takapuna, and a Design Lab in Christchurch where our physical products come to life.
We recently closed our Series A capital raise, so we're well-funded and ready to grow. Our team is smart, curious and has some big goals - so if you're interested in joining a fast-growing startup that is design-led and puts people at its core, then we'd love to hear from you!
The Role
We're looking to expand our DevSecOps capabilities and grow our small, cross-functional team. You'll be helping us build and scale our infrastructure with your excellent software skills and guidance. This role is core to optimising our pipelines, implementing our security architecture, and continuously monitoring and improving our platform.
You will be highly adept at developing secure and robust Cloud integrations responsible for critical information communication and a flawless digital experience.
Some of the things that you might be involved in include:
Distributed infrastructure: Developing the AWS platform for distributed IoT components, including zero-trust communications, data integration, and cohesive applications to facilitate the complete digital experience.
CI/CD: Design deployment pipelines to build highly automated systems with appropriate controls in place to rapidly deliver amazing products to our customers.
Instrumentation: Working out how to best support a scaling operations team using monitoring, logging, and alerting to minimise failures.
Testing: Contribute to designing and automating our integration testing frameworks, ensuring performance under load, and support testing of new feature deployments.
Security Management: Proactively maintain our overall security posture by monitoring and reviewing privileged access, and contribute to identifying risks and mitigations in the platform.
Incident Response: Help diagnose and triage security incidents, working with system owners and Operations to determine root cause, as well as help continuously improve incident response plans.
This will be ideal for someone looking to grow their DevSecOps skills in a fast-paced, green fields environment. You will be developing our highly complex and distributed IoT system - working with our Product, Systems, and Digital teams to build amazing products and accelerate the clean energy revolution.
About You
We think you'll be a fit for this role if you have around 2 - 5 years experience in a similar role and have the following skills/traits:
Demonstrable experience in building scalable and secure platforms to integrate DevOps practices.
Experience with common infrastructure development and scripting languages, e.g. Terraform, JS, Python, GO.
Experience with common monitoring and observability platforms, e.g. Datadog, CloudWatch, Sentinel.
Ability to articulate the impacts of infrastructure design decisions to internal customers such as design, systems, product, and end-users.
The ability to support your team to achieve shared goals and objectives, to share your point of view, but accept when the team has made a decision to go in another direction.
Clear, candid and concise communication skills - both written and verbal, but also an ability to be kind and compassionate when dealing with others.
A desire to sprint, iterate, and understand when to go fast vs when to be detailed.
Some nice to haves include:
Experience with Kubernetes or similar container orchestration is an advantage.
Research shows that while men apply for jobs when they meet ~ 60% of the job criteria, women and other marginalised groups tend to apply only when they check every box. So if you think you have what it takes, but are not sure you check every box, we still want to hear from you.
Benefits
A competitive salary and employee share scheme (ESOP).
A hybrid-first culture - work from home or come into the office, it's totally up to you.
Unlimited annual leave so that you can take the time that you need to re-energise.
Tools of trade, including laptop and headphones, and we also pay your phone bill!
Flexible hours - we focus on effort and outcomes, so adjust your hours around your children, hobbies, or other commitments.
A schedule of fun team events throughout the year (mini-golf, arts and crafts, Lego Battlebots, Escape Rooms, what's next?).
Office dogs.
Access to Clearhead, our well-being programme which gives you 5x free sessions with a psychologist per year.
A $200 one-off payment towards your home workstation.
A commitment to diversity and inclusion: Pride Committee and partnering with Pride Pledge, DEIB Committee, EEO Policy and well-being strategy!
Parental leave policy that tops up wages to 100% for the primary caregiver for up to 22 weeks (conditions apply).
The opportunity to learn and develop from some of the best and brightest minds in the industry!
Let's Talk!
We'd love to hear from you! No need to submit a cover letter - just click 'apply' to answer a few short questions of ours (we find this gives us more insight) and attach your CV.

If you have any questions about the role, fire them over to Steph at ****** .
