Job Description: Site Engineer - St Austell Link Road ProjectLocation: St Austell, CornwallSector: Highways ConstructionContract Type: FreelanceAbout the ProjectThe St Austell Link Road project is a significant infrastructure development aimed at improving connectivity, easing traffic congestion, and supporting economic growth in the region. This high-profile project involves road construction, drainage, earthworks, and highway structures.We are seeking a skilled Site Engineer with a strong background in highways to join our dynamic project team on a freelance basis. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in delivering this major project to high-quality standards, on time, and within budget.Key ResponsibilitiesSite Coordination & Supervision:Oversee day-to-day site activities to ensure work aligns with project specifications and design drawings.Coordinate with subcontractors, site teams, and suppliers to ensure smooth execution of tasks.Technical Support:Provide technical guidance for highways construction processes, including earthworks, drainage, pavement layers, and structures.Interpret design drawings and specifications, ensuring accuracy and compliance.Quality Assurance:Conduct site inspections and quality checks to ensure construction meets required standards and tolerances.Maintain detailed records of work performed and materials used for quality assurance and auditing purposes.Surveying & Setting Out:Perform setting out duties using total stations, GPS equipment, and other surveying tools.Check levels, alignment, and dimensions against project specifications.Health & Safety Compliance:Ensure all site activities comply with health and safety regulations.Conduct risk assessments and toolbox talks to promote a safe working environment.Stakeholder Communication:Liaise with the project manager, design team, and external stakeholders to address technical queries and resolve issues.Provide progress updates and maintain open communication with all project stakeholders.Qualifications and ExperienceEducational Background:Degree or HND/HNC in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.Experience:Proven experience working on highways or infrastructure projects, with a thorough understanding of highways construction processes.Experience in setting out, surveying, and working with AutoCAD.Skills:Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.Proficiency in surveying instruments (total station, GPS).Solid understanding of health and safety regulations and quality assurance processes.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Certifications:CSCS card (essential).SMSTS or SSSTS (desirable).First Aid at Work (desirable).
