Retail Assistants (Retail & Consumer Products)Keen to join a fun, busy and vibrant workplace?
Vogel St Hospice, permanent part-time, 8hrs per week Sundays, $27.80 per hour.The position entails processing a high volume of donated goods, and also having a keen eye to curating these goods at a fast pace.
You will have numerous interactions every day with our varied donors and shoppers as well as our volunteer workforce.If you are an energetic people person with excellent communication skills, retail experience and have an understanding of the second-hand sector, then act swiftly - applications close at 5pm on Wednesday 11th September 2024.Operationally responsible for: VolunteersPurpose of the positionTo support the Hospice Shop Manager (HSM) with the overall shop performance: achieve turnover and surplus objectives, manage a team of rostered volunteers and manage stock, leading the team in the Shop Manager's or Shop Assistant Manager's absence.Functional relationshipsRetail Development ManagerCoordinator of VolunteersChief Executive OfficerOCH staffMembers of PublicSpecific areas of responsibilityKey Result AreasTo generate income that will contribute to the running costs of the Otago Community Hospice allowing the service to be provided free of charge to the patients and families in our care.To support the Hospice Shop Manager (HSM) with achieving the Shop surplus in line with or in excess of budget.To promote awareness of Hospice care in the community and foster good public relations.To have a highly functioning team of staff and volunteers.Supervise the sorting and pricing items for sale, delegating and training others as required.Ensure that donated goods are clean, well presented and priced accordingly to maximize their potential return.Change stock as necessary, e.g.
seasons and to maintain customer interest.Keep stock at manageable levels, discarding in line with HSM direction.Arrange that the shop is opened on time and locked securely at close of business, as directed.Support the HSM with arranging the collection of donated goods where delivery is not possible, as required.2.
AdministrationBank the daily takings, balance the tills and complete the reconciliations in support of the HSM.Support the HSM with the petty cash system – ensuring petty cash reconciliations are fully completed with detail and receipts provided.Support the HSM ensuring the roster is maintained and distributed to volunteers, working a minimum of 1 month ahead, including holiday cover.Foster a positive shop team, providing support for volunteers.Support the HSM, ensuring that all new staff and volunteers are properly inducted, and aware of shop policies and procedures, including personal purchases and cash donation policies.4.
Maintaining ComplianceSupport the HSM with ensuring the Hospice Health and Safety policies are followed.Be familiar with, monitor and report any new hazards relating to Hospice facilities and services which are under your supervision.Maintain safe organised and neat work areas.Understand and conform with all relevant Hospice policies and procedures.5.
Communication and SupervisionAttend Hospice education sessions as applicable to position.Attend Hospice staff meetings as required.Maintain own professional development relevant to the position.6.
Other DutiesAdditional duties within the scope of the role may be undertaken from time to time.ExperienceKnowledge and skillsBe an effective supervisor of volunteers.Be able to work autonomously as well as part of a team.Demonstrate effective problem solving, decision making, time management and delegation skills.Have the ability to cope with stress, conflicting demands and a heavy and at times physically demanding workload.Exhibit excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).AttributesBe self-motivated, innovative and empathic.Be able to seek knowledge and skills required.Know self and own limitations and when to seek support.Maintain professional relationship and rapport with staff and volunteers.
