The Senior Waters Engineer plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of our district's water infrastructure. Te Wero - The Challenge
As a Senior Waters Engineer, you will be at the helm of planning and developing our district's critical water infrastructure. Your role will encompass a wide range of responsibilities, including:
Planning and Designing: Develop comprehensive plans for drinking water, stormwater, and wastewater systems to meet the current and future needs of our community.
Waters Modelling: Utilise advanced modelling techniques to predict and manage water flow, quality, and distribution.
Project Leadership: Lead and oversee complex engineering projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all projects and operations comply with local, regional, and national regulatory standards.
Sustainable Practices: Advocate for and implement sustainable water management practices that promote environmental stewardship and resilience.
Your expertise will be crucial in navigating the challenges of water management, from stormwater systems to wastewater treatment, all while promoting environmental stewardship. You'll collaborate with a team of dedicated professionals and contribute to the sustainable development of our district.
We're looking for a Senior Waters Engineer who brings:
Educational Background : Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a related field. A Masters degree or equivalent is preferred.
Professional Credentials : Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status with Engineering New Zealand or eligibility to obtain CPEng registration.
Technical Expertise : Proficiency in design software such as Autodesk AutoCAD, Arc GIS Pro, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, Innovyze Infoworks ICM, EPA SWMM, Innovyze Infoworks WS Pro, and DHI Mike+.
Experience : 7-10 years in water engineering, with significant experience managing complex water infrastructure projects.
Regulatory Knowledge : In-depth understanding of New Zealand's water management regulations, standards, and best practices.
Communication Skills : Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of presenting complex technical information clearly.
Analytical Skills : Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to engineering challenges.
Leadership : Proven leadership skills, with experience mentoring and developing junior staff.
Local Knowledge : Familiarity with local regulations, industry standards, and environmental requirements.
Cultural Awareness : Knowledge of Tikanga Maori is desired.
Mindset : A progressive mindset focused on continual improvement.

The salary for this position is Grade 19 within Council's salary structure, plus Kiwi Saver.
