New Zealand Transport Agency – Wellington Central, North Island Showcase your transport planning and business case expertise on some of New Zealand's most important transport projects.

Can be based in any NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi office with priority applied to Wellington, Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions.
The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi We have a Senior Transport Planner opportunity available in our Transport Planning Team.
The team is geographically spread across NZ, and we collaborate and operate as a national practice-based team.
This means you could work on projects throughout Aotearoa no matter your office location.
This role is more than Transport Planning expertise, you will be responsible for the Transport Outcomes of a project from inception to pre implementation, managing risk and operating efficiently and effectively throughout.
You will operate as a smart client delivering options that are right sized and appropriate and drive your projects to meet delivery expectations.
Ideally you will be a confident self-starter, who thrives working collaboratively with diverse and varied stakeholders.
We look for people with natural curiosity, solution focus, and a growth mindset.
You'll also bring: Proven experience as a transport planning that delivers in a business case context, including option development, appraisal and evaluation, stakeholder engagement and project approvals.
Design experience and sound project leadership skills, including a high delivery focus and excellent attention to detail.
Experience managing professional services contracts to quality, time and budget constraints, reviewing outputs in association with subject matter experts.
Ability to connect people and navigate legislative process and political drivers to deliver great outcomes for both our business and customers.
Sufficient knowledge, to work independently or with support to provide planning and design advice across the organisation and externally.
A working knowledge of business case principles to ensure proposals are evidence based, aligned, and represent a compelling case for investment.
A growth mindset and willingness to both mentor and share your knowledge with others in the team and receive mentoring from Principal level Transport Planners as you work towards being a System design Lead capable of leading complex projects.

Our projects incorporate a range of solutions including infrastructure, digital and Intelligent Transport Systems, network optimisation and road pricing.
