Join us.We're looking for a Senior Sustainability Advisor to join our team on a fixed term basis until March 2026. We offer hybrid working practices, a host of employee benefits and a genuine commitment to your training and career development.What you'll be doing / He aha te mahiAs a key driver of sustainability in the Queenstown Lakes region, you will focus on strengthening partnerships and promoting waste minimisation efforts across diverse sectors. This will involve working closely with internal and external stakeholders, including central government, community groups, businesses, iwi/Maori organisations, educational institutions, and other community-based entities. You will lead the delivery of community-facing initiatives aligned with the Queenstown Lakes District Council's (QLDC) Waste Management and Minimisation Plan, support the development of key strategies and policies, and provide expert technical advice on waste minimisation and sustainability to other QLDC departments.The role will involve:Providing technical and strategic advice on waste minimisation and broader sustainability practices across QLDC departments with a focus on innovation and best practiceSupporting the wider waste team including the Solid Waste Operations & Contracts Manager, Solid Waste Officer, and Waste Minimisation Strategy Planning ManagerDeveloping and supporting waste minimisation and behaviour change initiatives, communications and engagement campaigns, and community partnerships that deliver on the actions in the QLDC Waste Minimisation and Management PlanOverseeing several funding agreements with key community partners, managing a community composting project jointly funded by the Ministry for Environment, and administering QLDC's annual waste minimisation community fundEngaging with stakeholders, including the Ministry for Environment, community groups, businesses, and iwi/Maori, to promote sustainable practices and develop and foster partnershipsMonitoring, evaluating, and reporting on the effectiveness of waste minimisation strategies, ensuring alignment with local and national sustainability goalsWhat you'll bring to the role / Ko wai to PukekaYou will have over 10 years of progressive experience in a multidisciplinary environment, driving sustainability initiatives at both senior and technical levels. You will have a proven ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. An excellent communicator with strong report writing, data analysis, and presentation skills, you will be capable of prioritising tasks and meeting deadlines with minimal supervision, including occasional work outside of core hours.
