Come build the difference!What will you do with us?Report to the General Manager of HERA's Structural Systems, as a Senior Structural Sustainability Engineer you'll join our Auckland based team to play a key thought leadership role in engineering for Aotearoa.You'll help us develop great relationships with members and clients and ensure successful outcomes by driving standards updates and design guides. You'll also deliver preliminary designs for multi-storey buildings, sustainability initiatives and educational programs that give industry the right skills for the future.Future focused research on various aspects of structural engineering, the intersection between Matauranga Maori and Construction 4.0, and other Industry 4.0 related activities such as software development will also play a part in your day to day focuses.Key responsibilities of this role:Project manage HERA's sustainability research and support services;Identify, develop, and deliver structural sustainability research opportunities;Identify and lead the application for external research funding opportunities (e.g. grants)Develop and deliver seminars and presentations to assist industry to expand their skill base is structural sustainability areas;Develop design guides to disseminate technical reports findings in a practical and streamlined way with a focus on sustainability;Join and report to influential industry advisory groups;Apply structural expertise to consult on technical projects and review designs of sustainable structures;Develop and apply experience in structural analysis and designs of multi-level buildings including steel, RC concrete, and steel-concrete composite buildings to comply with Aotearoa New Zealand standards (NZS 3404, NZS 3101, AS/NZS 1170.0 to 4,NZS 1170.5,AS/NZS 2327:2017, …) and sustainability standards (ISO 14040, ISO 14041, ISO 14042, ISO 14043 …);Represent HERA on national (NZS) and Australasian (AS/NZS) sustainability standards committees;Provide life cycle analysis (LCA) of buildings and bridges;Assess environmental impact of buildings and bridges and design (propose solutions) to reduce it;Champion a new focus on sustainability projects in our goal to reduce steel's carbon emissions and implement a circular economy in Aotearoa and its steel industry and construction sectors;Deliver against income-generating targets;Develop a community of members and engineers engaged with HERA's Structural Systems activities and to support strategic focuses of HERA;Support and share social and email campaigns to your network to assist with its delivery as required (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn);Maintain knowledge of and follow best practice health and safety requirements; andThe responsibilities of this role are expected to change over time. You will bring new skills and capabilities to diversify our structural team.Is that you?Essential attributes and experience:BE (Civil or Structural) qualified, and post-graduate qualifications in Structural Sustainability or related areas;Suitable qualification in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and experience with a broad range of LCA tools;Minimum 5 years of post-graduation work experience (for senior level) and 3 years (for intermediate level) in research or engineering related to structural sustainability, with progress towards becoming a Life Cycle Assessment Certified Professional (LCACP);Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and inspireExperience using AS/NZS 1170, or equivalent, for seismic and wind loadings;Experience in the limit state design of steelwork using NZS 3404 and composite design using AS/NZS 2327, or equivalent and sustainability standards;Able to take greater roles in nonpreliminary design project work;Experience in BIM, digital twin, or industry 4.0 in construction;PhD or master's degree and track-record of industry-focused research;Experience in research projects;Experience in project management;Publication list in peer-reviewed publications and industry journals;report and journal writing skills;knowledge of best practice health and safety requirements;keen to learn new skills and accept review;Able to work independently to complete projects on time and within budget;Team player willing to contribute ideas;Experience developing design tools and programming languages; andExperience delivering industry training.Desirable Attributes and experience:Engineering experience in Aotearoa;Life Cycle Assessment Certified professional (LCACP)Experience in BIM, digital twin, or industry 4.0 in construction;Experience in complex research projects;Publication list in peer-reviewed publications and industry journals;Experience developing design tools and programming languages; andExperience delivering industry training.PhD or master's degreeAbout usWe've a tribe of passionate metal heads who innovate successfully.HERA is a research association with a difference – because we're solutions driven, and set on connecting and inspiring our industry and creating a strong workforce with the right skills for their needs.Not only that – but your work life balance is important to us, and we'll offer flexible working arrangements to the right candidate.We have a commitment to diversity.
