Commercial Senior Structural Engineer – (Ponsonby) Location: Ponsonby, Auckland Duration: 4-year fixed-term project: About the Project: to collaborate closely with the Project Manager, subcontractors, architects, and site teams to ensure the successful completion of this high-tier structure.
This role involves overseeing the structural design, site inspections, and liaising with key stakeholders to deliver on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities: Lead the high-rise project's structural engineering design, analysis, and compliance.
Work closely with the Project Manager (PM) to plan, monitor, and report on the project's progress.
Coordinate and manage communications with subcontractors (subbies) to ensure smooth execution and alignment with the project plan.
Provide on-site supervision, technical guidance, and quality control throughout construction phases.
Collaborate with architects, planners, and contractors to solve design or engineering challenges.
Ensure compliance with New Zealand building codes, engineering standards, and safety protocols.
Prepare and submit reports, including engineering calculations, risk assessments, and status updates.
Manage and mitigate risks through proactive problem-solving and engineering best practices.
Mentor and guide junior engineers and site staff, promoting professional development within the team.
Requirements: Degree/Qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering (NZ-recognized or equivalent).
5-8+ years of experience in structural engineering, with a strong focus on high-rise buildings.
Proven experience working with PMs and subcontractors in complex projects.
In-depth knowledge of New Zealand building codes and construction practices.
Strong project coordination skills with an ability to deliver under pressure and within deadlines.
Experience with structural design tools (e.g., ETABS, SAP2000, or Tekla).
Excellent problem-solving abilities and communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to lead teams and build effective working relationships across multiple stakeholders.
Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards it is an advantage.
