We're seeking a proactive Senior Solicitor to provide high quality legal advice at an independent Crown Entity, the Transport Accident Investigation Commission (TAIC).
The Role Take the lead on the Commission's legal function, ensuring accident investigations and investigation reports are legally robust and that the organisation meets its Crown Entity obligations.Engaging right across the organisation, you'll provide high quality and timely legal and analytical leadership to the Commission, TAIC Board, management and staff, and build effective relationships with key external stakeholders.The work is varied and highly interesting as you'll provide legal leadership on transport accident investigations and reports, ensure legal assurance, policy services, and statutory obligations are proactively managed, and provide legal leadership to both projects and operational obligations.You'll support the Commission General Counsel and be competent to step up into an acting capacity when needed.The role provides the opportunity to work closely with all sectors of the organisation, including the senior leadership, Chief Executive and Commissioners – and presents an excellent opportunity to further enhance your career.
The remuneration band for this role is between $105,300 to $140,400 depending on skills and experience.
About You The role will suit someone with at least five years' experience PQE, and has:
a strong understanding of administrative law in a public sector contextvery strong critical and analytical thinking skillsevidential analysis experiencehigh level communication skills – and a plain English championexcellent relationship skills and diplomacya law degree and is qualified to hold a legal practicing certificate.Experience within regulatory systems, the transport sector, or a Crown entity would be a bonus.
Given the nature of the work, you'll need the psychological maturity to handle what might be stressful and emotionally difficult circumstances, evidence, and material.
The organisation The Transport Accident Investigation Commission investigates significant transport accidents across the three modes of aviation, rail, and marine, with a view to avoiding similar occurrences in the future. Multi-disciplinary teams investigate and analyse the circumstances of these occurrences, supporting the Commission to consider the facts, and make findings and recommendations to improve transport safety, rather than to ascribe blame.
The investigation process leads to a report outlining the findings and safety recommendations to the sector.
