Since 2013 we have grown to support over 2,500 schools, operating one of the largest networks of our kind accounting for nearly 25% of the country's daytime business internet traffic, and meeting the connectivity and cybersecurity needs of 900,000+ akonga and kaiako.About the RoleWe are looking for a proactive Senior Security Engineer to join our forward-thinking digital team. This is a 12-month fixed term contract where you'll be instrumental in securing our systems and networks against cyber threats as we deliver the next iteration of N4L's Managed Network, rolling out a significant upgrade to enhance internet, cybersecurity, and filtering services for schools and kura.You will collaborate on multiple workstreams, working cross-functionally with various teams to provide expert guidance on security matters. Your primary focus will be on enhancing our cybersecurity posture through continuous improvement initiatives.What You Need to Be Successful:5+ years of hands-on experience in IT network deployment, migration, and upgrades, especially in wired, wireless, and firewall networking.Proven track record with any firewall vendors like Palo Alto, Ruckus, Fortinet, Aerohive, or Allied Telesis.Certifications like PCNSA, NSE 4, or CCNP/CCNA are a plus, but your experience with these systems matters most.Strong troubleshooting skills, particularly in network connectivity and firewall management.Effective communicator: able to simplify technical details for non-technical staff.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide thought leadership and mentoring to the Security Engineering team, fostering a positive and productive work environment.Lead the efforts in threat detection and response by leveraging Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems, responsible for configuring and optimizing SIEM tools to collect, analyze, and correlate security data from various sources.Understand and address complex security issues in a dynamic business environment, focusing on best practices in information security.Develop and implement effective security strategies to mitigate potential vulnerabilities.Identify, document, and propose mitigating controls for information security risks in collaboration with internal stakeholders.Collaborate with internal teams to promote security best practices throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).Monitor information systems for security incidents and vulnerabilities; create reporting on incidents, vulnerabilities, and trends.Research and implement improvements to our information security controls and solutions, enhancing our cyber resilience.What you will need to succeed5+ years of hands-on experience in information security roles such as Security Engineer, SOC Analyst, DevSecOps, AppSec, or equivalent roles with a focus on security projects.Experience in deploying/optimizing SIEM or components: Elastic SIEM, Cortex, Qradar, Splunk.Proven experience with advanced security automation and response tools, including Cortex SOAR, XSIAM, and XDR.Azure Security Services: Proficiency in implementing and managing Azure security services, including Microsoft Sentinel, Azure Active Directory (AAD) Identity Protection, and the Microsoft Defender Suite.Experience implementing and managing network security with Fortinet, FortiGate, and/or Palo Alto firewalls is desirable but not essential.You will be a collaborative team player who enjoys getting involved with a variety of tasks both big and small.
