We manage infrastructure, environmental conservation, community development, and regulatory services, responding to thousands of community interactions each year while proactively addressing local needs and challenges.As a Senior Resource Management Planner at Waitaki District Council, you'll lead the processing of land use and subdivision applications, provide high-level expertise on Resource Management Act matters, and drive continuous improvement in planning processes.
You'll offer technical guidance to senior staff, elected officials, and stakeholders, preparing submissions and reports that address both local and national planning challenges.This role involves managing multiple projects, mentoring junior staff, and supporting the development of the District Plan and long-term strategies.
It's an opportunity to make a significant impact on Waitaki's natural assets, infrastructure, and community through innovative and sustainable planning solutions.He aha taau e kawe mai | What you'll bringQualifications: A tertiary qualification in planning, resource management, or surveying, with eligibility for membership in the New Zealand Planning Institute.
A full NZ Driver's Licence is required.Experience and Expertise: At least 5 years of post-qualification experience in planning or policy development, including the preparation of subdivision and land use applications under the Resource Management Act.
Experience presenting evidence at Environment and High Courts is highly valued.Leadership and Mentorship Skills: Proven ability to lead projects, mentor junior staff, and contribute to high-performing team environments.Technical Proficiency: Expertise in establishing best practices for Council consenting processes, transitioning to e-services, and preparing detailed reports for decision-makers.Strategic and Analytical Skills: Strong understanding of the political context in which Council operates, with the ability to align planning initiatives with broader Council goals.If you are interested in this role on a fixed term secondment basis and have your home agency's prior support, you're welcome to contact us to discuss making this happen.WDC is committed to continuous improvement, innovation, and collaboration, striving to be a leading council that makes Waitaki a better place to live, work, and visit.
