Bringing together world class dairy products and the deep expertise of our people we work alongside the passionate, talented and innovative food professionals who are driving dairy industry and innovation.About the opportunity | Te whiwhinga mahiWe have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Research Scientist with qualifications in sensory and consumer research and data science to join our Product Experience Team at our Research and Development Centre in Palmerston North on permanent basis.As our Senior Research Scientist, your main role is to improve and maximize the value of sensory and consumer data by developing and implementing new data processes and tools. You'll be a key player in bridging the gap between data science and sensory and consumer science to enhance innovation and support strategic decision-making.You'll drive efficiency within the Product Experience Team by streamlining and automating processes. This role requires collaboration with various departments to support data-driven decision-making and contribute to the development of innovative solutions.Key responsibilities include:Lead Sensory and Consumer Research in global innovation projects. Design, execute, and oversee sensory and consumer research studies from inception to conclusion, ensuring high-quality data collection and analysis.Utilize advanced statistical methods and data science techniques to analyse sensory and consumer data, providing actionable insights and recommendations.Engage with stakeholders with different backgrounds and seniority. Being comfortable presenting research findings and insights and providing expert guidance on sensory and consumer science-related matters.Mentor junior researchers and students, providing training on advanced data analysis techniques and sensory and consumer research methodologies. Being the team's R champion and lead the integration of R as well as other data tools.Keep up to date with the latest trends and advancements within Generative AI and Large Language Modelling and apply this knowledge to transform or improve research practices.Prepare detailed reports, conference abstracts and manuscripts for peer reviewed journals documenting and communicating research findings, methodologies, and processes internally and externally.About you | Ko wai koeWith a background in sensory and consumer science, you'll bring a proactive attitude and proven data science experience. Proficient in Python or R, you'll have a deep understanding of statistical analysis and machine learning. Your excellent communication skills enable you to effectively articulate your contributions.You'll work on a variety of projects focused on sensory and consumer science, innovation and value across the Co-Op, with an emphasis on analytics, programming, and problem-solving to improve operations. This role requires strong skills in coding and mathematics, effective communication, and the ability to present data clearly to a wide audience.To be successful in this role you will need:Master's degree or PhD in Sensory and Consumer Science, Food Science, Statistics, Data Science or a related field and documented training in R5 years' experience within industry or academic research, preferably in a global company.
