This is an exciting, varied position for those who pride themselves on supporting the development of policy and information gathering. You will get a thrill out of compiling research from different sources, including current or past legislation, academic articles, media releases and the Parliament library. Gathering information is one thing, summarising it into fit-for-purpose insights is something else. This is where your previous skills will come into play. This is what the Senior Research advisor to Jo Luxton member of Parliament (MP) will be all about. The Senior Research Advisor is also responsible for providing advice to the MP on the development of policy, depending on the needs of the MP and in liaison with the Labour Leader's Office colleagues. Your communications expertise and strategic planning skills will have you ready to prepare and deliver your MP's communications plan.

There are several different backgrounds that will add to your success in this position. The core technical skills that you will be able to bring to this position are a deep practical understanding and appreciation of the importance research plays in making informed decisions, ability to analyse and collate complex data and form these into easy-to-understand briefings. Other required skills are Communication skills are important communication skills and You will need to bring the ability to prioitise workloads and deliver on (sometimes) conflicting deadlines. Above all else, your strong interpersonal skills will shine through in any social setting.

All employees who work for MPs are employed on an 'events based' agreement, with your employment linked to your MP. This role is based in the Parliamentary precinct in Wellington, for 40 hours per week.
