Are you passionate about te taiao, and keen to be at the leading edge of iwi partnership and conservation leadership within the beautiful Hauraki/Waikato/Taranaki region?
As Senior Ranger Treaty Partner Relationships, you will endeavour to strengthen Treaty partnerships and support work to meet settlement obligations across the Taranaki district.
You will be responsible for leading and maintaining iwi relationships, facilitating iwi engagement in statutory and business planning processes, delivering iwi and hapu-based projects, and reporting.
This role is supported by a regional Treaty team dedicated to Treaty partnerships and opportunities.
The position will be focussed on:
supporting the roll-out of work scheduling and reporting for Treaty settlement commitmentssupporting the implementation of the 'Whaia ki a Tata' district strategic plan, to improve our regional ability to give effect to the principles of Te Tiriti and work effectively alongside whanau, hapu and iwifacilitating coordination of regular meetings with whanau, hapu and iwisupporting opportunities for whanau, hapu and iwi to build their internal capabilities to practise their responsibilities as kaitiakikeeping up to date with the iwi landscape in New Plymouth and ensuring this information is shared with the Operations teamsupporting staff in the DOC New Plymouth district to increase their cultural competency and better understand the district's Treaty obligations and the priorities of our Treaty partners.We are looking for a natural people leader who is passionate about supporting a positive team culture.
If you have some of the following, we are keen to hear from you:
Excellent communication and engagement skills.A heightened sense of self-awareness and emotional intelligence.Strong understanding of Te Reo Maori, Te Ao Maori and tikanga, with confidence to engage and work effectively with whanau, hapu, and iwi.Strategic and operational planning and implementation experience.Experience in community relations and stakeholder engagement.Ability to coach and mentor to build capability of others.Current Full New Zealand drivers licence.Experience in Treaty of Waitangi legislation and policy with the ability to work with Tangata Whenua, Regional and District Councils and other external stakeholders within a legislative capacityExperience in Treaty Claim Settlement Acts, Section 4 of the Conservation Act, statutory obligations and Iwi environmental management plansMo te tima | About the team The Regional Operations Group, which is responsible for delivering conservation work on the ground through our biodiversity, recreation/historic, community engagement and visitor centre teams.
