He angitutanga | About the role

This role works closely within our District Leadership Team to support the strategy, planning, scheduling, monitoring, and reporting of our district work programme to our Pou Matarautaki (Operation Manager). No two days are the same and the scope of the work is varied and diverse.

This role will specifically focus on work planning, scheduling, and managing visitor assets and heritage sites, and could be anything from identifying maintenance issues with our tracks and utilities to planning work within budget and resources and allocating out to teams.

You will specifically focus on:

Planning and prioritising monthly work program for the Heritage & Visitor team.

Identifying and managing risk.

Providing strategic advice to the Operations Manager.

Managing stakeholder relationships.

Undertaking financial and performance monitoring and reporting.

Actively work closely with whanau, hapu and iwi with all the sites we manage.

Work closely with the Supervisor, and lead planning of the annual and monthly work programmes for the Operations Manager.

Plan, phase and track budget (including capital), identify critical cost pressures and recommend solutions.

Assist the Operations Manager to monitor field operations and systems to inform planning and reporting.

Work with key stakeholders to deliver projects.

Provide strategic advice on how to manage visitor sites and resources.

If you have the following skills and experience, we are keen to hear from you:

Knowledge of operational field work in one or more of the following areas:

Management of facilities, amenities and sites

Visitor experience and risk management

Maintenance of sites and assets

Scheduling and prioritisation of work orders

Relationship building skills, with ability to work in true partnership with others across DOC and externally, including with local whanau, hapu and iwi partners

Strong critical thinking and analysis skills

The ability to manage and translate priorities into operational work plans

Strong communication skills

Full New Zealand Drivers Licence

A moderate level of technical competency, with the ability to learn the Department's computer systems.

Previous experience engaging and working in partnership with iwi and mana whenua, as well as an understanding of the implications of te Tiriti o te Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) on today's society and conservation is desirable.
