Senior Project Manager at Ara Poutama Aotearoa (Department of Corrections), Wellington (Te Whanganui a Tara)Utilise your Senior Project management and stakeholder engagement skills in this multi-dimensional programme, initially for Prison Capacity and Housing on Prison Land.Senior Project Manager responsible for delivering on the Prison Capacity programme and assisting the Manager Delivery Projects on the Housing Detail Business Case.Role based in National Office, Wellington – fixed term until June 2026.Nga kawenga | About the role As the Senior Project Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the strategic asset management elements of the Capital Programme are delivered efficiently. This role involves proactive project management, including organising people, tasks, and resources, setting deadlines, and creating project documentation. You will need to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders, manage consultancy contracts, and handle project finances. Additionally, you must identify and manage project risks, ensure compliance with quality assurance standards, and maintain a focus on health, safety, and wellbeing.
In this role you will also contribute to creating a positive and high-performing project team while supporting the Asset Management team in embedding inclusion, diversity, and professional development.
Project focuses for this role will be:
Prison Capacity - In response to this capacity challenge, Asset Management is exploring infrastructure solutions to expand prison capacity. The strategy involves the urgent implementation of smaller-scale capacity enhancements.Housing on Prison Land Programmes - Providing a residential reintegration service on Corrections land with a safe environment for high risk people, that provides effective reintegration support and helps improve public safety. They provide oversight and support in the community within the parameters of the person's sentence or order.We are looking for someone who has the ability to build and lead bespoke / tailored project teams and proactively manage key project stakeholder relationships. You'll have excellent interpersonal skills and proven negotiation experience, including the ability to influence and build consensus across a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Key skills we will look for in your application: Demonstrated experience in skilfully identifying risks and issues, and successfully implementing plans to resolve these to ensure project delivery.Experience within P3M3, change, benefits framework and drafting investment cases.To be successful in this role you will bring:
A proactive approach: Understand and apply best practice project management processes, methods, techniques, and tools.Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to act as an editor for reports and business cases, communicating technical information clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical team members and stakeholders.Excellent organisational skills and drive; Demonstrated ability to deliver projects to achieve the desired outcomes to budget and within required timeframe.Ability to build rapport with internal and external stakeholders, including technical teams and suppliers.The midpoint of the salary range is $143,461 and the full range (85%-120%) is $121,942 - $172,154. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
