About the opportunity | Te whai waahi As the Senior Procurement Energy Category Manager, you will create procurement strategies that enable Fonterra's sustainability journey and support its decarbonisation goals while optimising costs.
Leveraging deep knowledge of New Zealand's energy markets — coal, gas, electricity, and wood biomass — you will guide informed decision-making as we transition to sustainable fuel sources.
Your leadership will oversee a team of category and vendor managers, ensuring alignment with organisational needs through effective stakeholder engagement.
You'll lead the shift towards sustainable fuel sources, requiring a long-term strategic procurement plan and adaptation of procurement processes.
Your vision will maximize value and minimise supply risks, significantly impacting the Co-operative and enhancing returns for our farmers.
The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of the New Zealand energy landscape, including market dynamics that influence supply and demand, such as economic trends, government policies, and environmental regulations.
Familiarity with the various energy resources in New Zealand—such as coal, natural gas, electricity and wood biomass—is essential for making informed sourcing and sustainability decisions.
An understanding of pricing structures in the energy sector, such as fixed versus variable pricing, long-term contracts, and market dynamics will be essential.
The ability to identify and assess risks associated with energy procurement, including supply disruptions, price volatility, and regulatory changes, is crucial for developing effective risk mitigation strategies.
This expertise will empower the category manager to navigate the complexities of the energy market effectively, ensuring that Fonterra can make informed decisions that align with its sustainability goals and business needs.
About you | Moe koe This is a senior leadership role that demands exceptional Procurement thought leadership and the ability to significantly influence senior stakeholders.
You will regularly engage with and present to the Chief Operating Officer, the Commercial Leadership Team, and other senior stakeholders as needed.
Additional skills, experience and attributes include: Tertiary qualification, preferably Supply Chain or related business degree.
Achieved MCIPS (or equivalent experience) Minimum of 10 years strategic procurement experience, including category strategy development, sourcing, negotiating, contract establishment and vendor management.
Energy market experience across gas, electricity and coal Proven track record in creating and executing strategic management plans.
