About The Role We take great pride in being the world's only smelter producing ultra-high purity aluminium using 100% hydro-electricity and we strive for consistency of supply to our valued customers. Having recently secured the future of the smelter with a new 20 year energy agreement we are looking for a Senior Process Engineer (Ultra High Purity Specialist) to interface between the three key operating areas on site: Carbon, Reduction and Casting & Logistics, as well as senior leadership and global teams including procurement, sales and marketing. Reporting to the Principal Improvement Projects and working in a challenging and exciting environment within the NZ Aluminium Smelters Business Improvement team, you will be: Collaborating with stakeholders across site and globally Responsible for the delivery of UHP and HP metal at planned production output rates Ensuring consistency of UHP production Providing UHP production forecasting capability ensuring Rio Tinto Sales and Marketing and customer confidence Understanding and communicating raw material influences Determining and managing strategic inventories of UHP metal Comprehension of Sales premiums and current product costing Close collaboration with Sales and Marketing to understand market trends and emerging markets Supporting and executing strategic projects related to UHP production and capture across the whole site Building productive relationships with key stakeholders e.g. raw material procurement, department technical specialists, and Shipping Services. What You'll Bring A commitment to the safety of yourself and others Excellent stakeholder engagement skills A chemical engineering/chemistry qualification is preferred but those with an extensive background in Aluminium production and processing will be considered. Strong analytical skills and experience understanding trends and problem solving Understanding of raw materials and compositions would be advantageous Ability to investigate and support process excursions through collaboration, data analytics and with tenacity Strong project management skills e.g Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt qualification would be helpful. We encourage any applicant with a background in aluminium processing to apply; however, a strong background in any mineral processing is also advantageous.
