We are seeking high performing individuals to fulfil Senior Ecologist / Principal Ecologist roles in any of our New Zealand locations (Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington).The Jacobs team deliver complex and technically challenging local and national projects for public and private clients involved in a wide range of infrastructure and development activities, including public utilities, renewable energy, resource projects, transport infrastructure, and large-scale environmental management and monitoring programs.
We are seeking to appoint an experienced Ecologist(s), based out of any of our New Zealand offices.
You can establish and shape your own New Zealand team and be part of a growing, high-performing ANZ team that is key to delivering regional and nationally important projects.The purpose of this role is to provide technical skills and expertise in any of the below mentioned ecological areas to support development activities, resource consent applications and environmental monitoring and compliance:Avifauna and bat survey, data analysis and reporting.Lizard and invertebrate survey, data analysis and reporting.Freshwater ecology and ecosystem survey, data analysis and reporting.Vegetation and habitat survey, mapping and reporting.Development and publication of ecological management plans to avoid, remedy and mitigate adverse effects on the environment.An understanding of offsetting and compensation principles.Experience providing expert evidence in Council hearings and/or Environment Court.Ecological Artificial Intelligence (AI) monitoring systems.Ecologist Primary Responsibilities Will IncludeBuilding and/or contributing to a high performing New Zealand ecology team and contributing to project opportunities by building strong relationships with clients.Undertaking flora and fauna assessments, including desktop assessment, field survey and reporting, as required.Contributing to proposal and project opportunities, supporting the delivery of ecology projects, working collaboratively with a range of disciplines.Principal ecologist primary responsibilities will include those mentioned above with addition of:Leading proposal and project opportunities by building strong relationships with clients, leading the delivery of ecology projects, working collaboratively with a range of disciplines.Providing leadership to the ecology team and undertaking technical review of ecology deliverables, reports and proposals.Understand and develop the interdisciplinary coordination between ecology and engineering disciplines.Mentoring/supporting junior staff.Here's what you'll needDegree in a relevant science discipline (ecology, environmental science, natural resource management).Member of a relevant Chartered institute (not mandatory).Essential Skills And Experience2+ years experience in the delivery of ecology projects in New Zealand.Willingness to undertake travel for fieldwork, including the occasional extended trip (negotiable).Proven report writing skills and demonstrated experience in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.Excellent communication, organisational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.Current driver's license.4WD training and experience, or willingness to complete training.Additional Skills For Principal Role7+ years experience in the delivery of ecology projects in New Zealand.Experience in and desire to be involved in business development.Ability to manage a program of fieldwork amongst a team.Develop and deliver ecological programs that are fit for purpose.Desirable competenciesKnowledge on the Vegetation Quality Assessment framework.GIS skills and experience including use of ESRi ArcGIS Pro and Field Maps for data collection and analysis.Working knowledge of new technologies in field survey and analysis.Jacobs.
