Department of Corrections NZ – Tokoroa, North IslandMo te tunga | About the roleWe are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic, and committed probation professional to take up an exciting opportunity as Senior Practitioner working in the Waikato Region.As a Senior Practitioner you will play a key role in driving the outcomes that are at the heart of Hokai Rangi.The Senior Practitioner position is regarded as an expert working in the Supported Decision Framework. Senior Practitioners manage a balanced caseload, with an emphasis on more complex cases involving either medium or high-risk people in our care.The position also assists with risk assessments and the provision of information as required. Working with Service Managers to support and role model good practice using the Integrated Practice Framework and provide 'in the moment' advice to peers and team members, along with mentoring as required.Additionally, the position assists Service Managers with quality checks on sentence management, staff development, along with supporting the implementation of new or changed practice and procedures related to probation work in Community Corrections.If this resonates and aligns with your values and you can demonstrate the following skills and experience, we would love to hear from you:Proven competency and experience as a probation officer practitioner managing high-risk offendersKnowledge and experience in all aspects of the management and implementation of community-based sentences e.g., legislation, sentences, and orders.Knowledge of the Community Corrections Integrated Practice Framework.An understanding of and the applicability of our Hokai Rangi strategy and our valuesAn understanding of the research into 'what works' and the engagement models used for dealing effectively with people in our care and their whanau.Professional credibility.A solid understanding of motivational interviewing, and advanced communication skills are absolute must haves.The salary band for this role is $83,969 - $92,496.
