Senior Policy Analyst - Fixed term at Ministry of Health, WellingtonOpportunity to showcase your strategic system thinking and problem-solving skillsAbility to influence senior stakeholders and work across governmentLead parts of the work programmeFixed term role, Wellington based, until the end of September 2025Salary midpoint of $119,209, actual salary dependent on your experienceKo ake mahi - What you'll do In this role you will help drive core components of our work programme – specifically leading work on embedding the Government Policy Statement (GPS) on Health 2024-2027, working across government to start developing advice on the next GPS for health and supporting other cross-Ministry policy programmes.
You'll bring an understanding of the machinery of government and an ability to understand strategic system issues.You'll be able to work at pace and you will be comfortable analyzing complex subject matter.You'll know how to successfully navigate government and work collaboratively with senior stakeholders across government and the health system.You will be highly analytical and understand how to apply policy frameworks to work in tight timeframes.As a highly collaborative policy professional who can see the benefits of strong policy advice using data analysis and research to evidence advice, you bring with you a strong ability to take complex information and make it relevant across a range of audiences.You can demonstrate a strong understanding of how legislative and regulatory instruments can be applied to deliver better economic and social outcomes and improve health outcomes.At a Senior level, you will be able to demonstrate your comfort in taking the lead on some policy projects whilst sharing your knowledge and mentoring analysts to grow their policy skills. We regulate the health sector and are the primary source of policy advice to government on the health portfolio.
The System Accountability and Settings team is part of the Strategy Group sitting within the Strategy, Policy and Legislation Directorate. We are responsible for maintaining a strategic view of the parameters and rules which govern the health system and providing advice on the current accountability settings. This includes leading the development of the Government Policy Statement for Health and ensuring it is embedded across the health system. It also includes reviewing other accountability mechanisms that sit within the health system architecture and identifying risks and opportunities.
We proactively manage senior stakeholder relationships internally and across the health system to enable a shared view of system settings, accountability and where health system risks lie.
