Policy, Planning & Regulation (Government & Defence) Full time Our team is working on a variety of projects across Council's business units and your primary area of focus will be infrastructure-related advice and projects. You'll spend your days developing high quality strategy and policy advice to Council; and leading large and/or complex policy projects from initiation to project completion. You'll have a passion for all things local government along with at least 4 years work experience in a policy position within a government agency or the local government sector and experience (or an interest) in being an all-rounder, including working on regulatory, infrastructure, and various other aspects of the work programme. Work anywhere in NZ, 100% remote for the right candidate. You'll recognise the importance of the role as a Treaty partner and understand how that underpins Gisborne District Council's work. Key Responsibilities: Develop high-quality strategy and policy advice, lead complex projects, and ensure all policies align with statutory requirements and the Council's strategic goals. Keep the Strategic Planning Manager, the Senior Management Team and Council staff updated on strategic and local trends associated with community wellbeing through clear, accurate and timely reporting. Provide professional advice, support, education and information to internal staff and external stakeholders on Council's strategy and policy. Be responsive to initiatives arising from the community. Minimum Requirements: Minimum of 6 years' experience in policy development. Firm understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (Treaty of Waitangi) as it relates to policy development. Working understanding of local authority decision making processes and the governance management interface. Strong written communication skills and an ability to communicate complex written information to a range of audiences. Benefits: Flexible on start and finish times. Hybrid working (home and work).
