He angitutanga | About the role Our Hunting, Fishing and Economic Development Policy team has a unique role providing an interface between the Minister for Hunting and Fishing's office and DOC.
We provide strategic oversight for the Minister's priorities and delivery of the work programme for term.
The team also leads on a number of high priority, complex and interesting policy projects within the portfolio supporting Ministerial commitments.
This includes work to introduce Herds of Special Interest to balance hunting and conservation objectives; considering improvements to address issues and help Fish and Game be more effective; and considering how to manage game animals as valued introduced species.
As an experienced Senior Policy Advisor, you'll play a critical role in shaping and implementing policy projects that will have an impact this term.
You'll also provide great thought leadership, seeing the big picture across different workstreams in the team, across DOC and more widely within Government.
The Hunting, Fishing and Economic Development team is one of seven policy teams in the Directorate.
The Directorate helps ensure DOC has the right frameworks and settings in place to deliver on our outcomes for conservation and hunting and fishing, to meet Government priorities and to be an honourable Treaty Partner.
Nga pukenga me nga wheako | Skills and experience If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you: * Experience providing authoritative and frank policy advice on complex matters that recognises the choices and constraints Ministers face and anticipates their needs * Strong at in-depth policy analysis: asking great questions, working with experts to understand issues and challenge the status quo; identifying workable options with clearly defined opportunities and risks * Familiar with machinery of government and legislative processes * Experience planning and leading complex and sensitive policy programmes and projects, and working collaboratively to deliver * Excellent communication skills, with proven ability to present critical information concisely, or in different ways, tailored to audience * Able to engage strategically and influence effectively * Comfortable working at pace.
A candidate who can demonstrate previous experience at Senior Policy Advisor level will be preferred.

The salary range for this position is $95,706 - $128,271 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
