Our team of planners, landscape architects, environmental scientists, stakeholder engagement consultants and engineers plan, design and deliver the infrastructure and places that make our communities great.
About the role
We are looking to recruit a Senior to Principal Planner with Project Management experience into our Tamaki Makaurau | Auckland office, who has a proven track record in providing professional planning and resource management advice to internal and external clients including managing delivery to budget and programme.
In more detail the role involves:
Planning Role

Provide sound best-practice planning advice and support to internal and external clients.
Lead and manage planning projects including Notices of Requirement, resource consent applications, drafting plans and drafting planning policy.
Lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary project teams including subconsultants where necessary.
Prepare evidence for Council hearings and/or Environment Court proceedings and appear as an expert witness.
Mentoring next generation planners and cross-sector upskilling in planning requirements.
Keeping up to date with latest developments in planning and legislative changes.

Project Management Functions

Project managing a range of projects across the Planning and wider Community Development team from small scale to large complex consenting projects including multi-disciplinary project teams and subconsultants.
Delivering complex projects, working within high performing teams and contributing to the financial success of a business.
Undertaking project management, risk management, programming and reporting tasks for internal and external clients.
Working with the Stantec team, develop proposals for national clients as well as supporting and developing business locally.
Lead the development of new clients and business opportunities for Stantec.

To be successful in this role you will need:

Full membership of the NZPI (or eligibility to apply).
Broad resource management planning experience – at least eight years practice (Senior).
A strong working knowledge of National, Regional and District Planning frameworks.
Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams for complex consenting projects.
Experience leading optioneering processes with clients and stakeholders.
The ability to respond effectively to client needs and establish and maintain positive relationships.
Established and maintain professional networks and/or proven business development skills.
Effective communication skills are a must as are problem-solving and negotiation skills.
Expert baseline skills, i.e.: professional and confident with the essential, basic technical business and communication skills that are required for career growth and success.
Experience of infrastructure consenting and related policy development is desirable.
A working knowledge of Te Ao Maori and tikanga within the consenting environment including working in partnership with iwi and hapu is also desirable.
Excellent organisation and time management skills are a given, along with a high level of financial competency, and an ability to prioritise tasks to ensure deadlines are achieved.
You will have ideally achieved Project Management qualifications or be working towards the attainment of a recognised qualification and have a proven ability to manage multiple large-scale projects and programme management.
