About Transpower: Transpower is Aotearoa/New Zealand's National Grid operator. We keep the energy flowing by transporting electricity from where it is generated to cities, towns, and some major industrial users. About the team: The Application Services Group within our Information Services and Technology Division (IST) is responsible for managing Transpower's portfolio of applications and their cost-effective and seamless integration to meet business requirements through application acquisition or development, application life-cycle management, root cause analysis and problem resolution, as well as additions and enhancements.
About the opportunity: Application Services works under the guidance of our Digital Strategy team to deliver products in accordance with enterprise standards. The critically important IT systems built and operated by our Applications Services team are a key part of running Aotearoa/New Zealand's national grid and electricity market in real time.
As Senior Operations Analyst, you will provide expertise and support the Applications Manager in providing direction to the Applications Support team, along with supporting a portfolio of Market applications and systems. This is a broad role working across operational support as well as project delivery of enhancements to the applications supported. The applications that the team supports are specific to Transpower, so problem solving and learning skills are essential. The role offers plenty of learning opportunities, but experience with our existing technologies will be advantageous.
Specifically, you will:
Be responsible for technical incident resolution for supported critical systems.
Co-ordinate incident response teams to resolve IT incidents when other systems are involved.
Co-ordinate and lead Disaster Recovery test plans and testing.
Proactively work alongside Security, Infrastructure, and wider IST to ensure applications are maintained to the required security standards.
Provide assistance and support to less experienced members of the team, ensuring incidents, requests, and problems are addressed within SLAs.
Act as a Market System subject matter expert on capital projects.
Conduct regular reporting as requested.
Pursue continuous improvement and reduction of technical debt through robust problem analysis and automation of routine operational tasks and service requests.
As a key member of the team, you will also work on critical projects that introduce new technologies and focus on system improvements and preventative maintenance - all the while learning the complexities of the Market system domain.
Who we're looking for: You'll enjoy working in cross-functional teams and know what it takes to achieve outcomes - whether it be the delivery of new capability or supporting existing functions. With great communication skills, you will have well-developed strong technical skills and the ability to explain technical concepts simply to a variety of audiences. It's important that you have the ability to learn complex technical and business concepts quickly, and determination to build your knowledge and experience to become a technical expert in the Market system domain.
To be considered, your CV and cover letter will demonstrate:
5+ years of relevant hands-on software support, system administration, and/or system operations experience.
Experience with complex IT problem solving.
Experience with ITIL frameworks.
Experience in on-call 24x7 support.
A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience is desirable.
You may have experience with some of the following:
Openshift/Docker.
Kafka.
Ansible.
Windows.
Atlassian Tools (Jira, Confluence).
Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, Grafana.
Please note: this role provides 24x7 on-call support as required on a rostered basis. This is a non-negotiable part of this role.
