Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Counties Manukau District is dynamic and progressive, at the forefront of innovative health delivery, serving New Zealand's most culturally diverse population.
Middlemore Hospital is the main hub for acute care and referral services. As a teaching hospital of Auckland University, it caters for most medical and surgical specialties with a catchment area of around 550,000 people.
We are currently seeking a Renal / General Medicine SMO who is interested in joining our multidisciplinary department. The role will be a combined Renal and General Medicine Senior Medical Officer.
Our Renal Department comprises senior medical staff, junior medical staff, and a full team of ward and specialist nursing and allied health staff. We treat over 700 dialysis patients across all dialysis modalities and have a strong philosophy and organisational policy of independent and home-based renal replacement therapy and quality assurance.
The Renal service includes an inpatient ward, an acute 26 bed inpatient dialysis unit, 3 satellite dialysis units, and 3 community houses. It delivers outpatient care including in-centre haemodialysis, home haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and outpatient dialysis and nephrology clinics.
The service covers all aspects of renal medicine apart from acute kidney transplantation and has a home-based treatment philosophy. We look after approximately 300 patients who we work up for transplantation and who are returned to us early after transplantation at an adjacent hospital.
Currently, within our service, we have 15 Renal Physicians, 4 Registrars, 1 Research Fellow, and 2 House surgeons who work closely with our dedicated multidisciplinary Nursing and Allied Health team.
The posts offer a broad focus on patient care, research, and education within an innovative and friendly work environment. The opportunity exists to undertake interventional and procedural work for those with aptitude and previous experience (Tunnelled lines, Tenckhoff catheter insertion).
The Department of General Medicine is the largest of the 13 Departments in the Division of Medicine and has close ties with all the Medical specialties. All subspecialties contribute to undergraduate and post-graduate teaching programmes. The General Medicine experience at Middlemore is wide and varied, providing an interesting and challenging clinical environment.
Salary and conditions of service will be in accordance with the New Zealand ASMS Award Agreement. Candidates should be eligible for vocational registration in New Zealand.
Essential requirements include FRACP or equivalent (with nephrology training). For further information, please contact Dr. Jamie Kendrick-Jones on 0212462082. Job Number: CMH202413854.
