We're proud to call the coolest little capital of the world our home: Wellington, New Zealand.About the RoleClutterbot is looking for a senior mechanical engineer to deliver our consumer robotics platform to market. Our ideal candidate will be an excellent systems thinker who isn't afraid to get stuck into a challenging problem and provide solutions that meet and exceed expectations.You have designed robotic products and taken them to market. You are a strong, passionate mechanical engineer with experience in designing and manufacturing parts for injection molding, gearboxes, actuators, and other electromechanical components.What you'll be doing:Optimizing design and development of robot parts for manufacturing methods such as injection molding, die casting, and machining.Conduct simulations on the designed robot parts to evaluate their performance and manufacturability.Continuous use of different rapid prototyping methods, with international suppliers as well as in-house prototyping–including 3D printing and CAD design.Optimize the design, while providing mentoring and support to the team, around mechanical design of worm, bevel, and compound gearboxes and actuators.Ensure accurate and complete product specifications, 2D drawings, tolerances, and manufacturing requirements for suppliers.Maintain a high level of communication with local and international suppliers and work together to find solutions in the development of consumer robotics.Validation testing of electromechanical systems to ensure repeatability and accuracy of desired outputs.Identify risks, develop mitigation plans, and use quality control, preventive maintenance, and lean production to reduce defects, downtime, and waste.Providing guidance, mentorship, and engineering best practices within the team.Ensure product life requirements are met to ensure customer satisfaction, regulatory compliance, and product sustainability are maintained.Qualifications5+ years of relevant career experience in mechanical and consumer product design.Bachelor's Degree or higher in mechanical or manufacturing engineering, or in a related Engineering discipline (preferred).Required ExperienceStrong CAD skills (Solidworks preferable), including advanced techniques, surface modeling and use of master models.Strong hands-on experience in rapid prototyping including FDM, SLA 3D printing and use of third-party vendors.Proficiency in DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) best practices for injection molded plastics.Experience in the selection of materials for different applications.Hands-on experience building, testing and debugging electro-mechanical systems.Experience with manufacturing processes and GD&T best practices.Excellent research and documentation skills.Familiarity with the interpretation of design standards.Capable of solving complex problems with little to no supervision in a timely manner.Practical knowledge of system assembly, system testing, and tolerance capability.Desirable Experience (not mandatory)Strong experience with designing and testing reliable custom gearboxes for home appliances.Proficiency with Solidwork Simulation and Plastics.Experience with taking consumer products from prototype to production.Good experience in communication with suppliers and toolmakers.Understanding of regulations and standards for household appliances.Experience mentoring/ leading team members in technical topics.Strong project management skills with the ability to drive multiple parts and aspects of product manufacturing process development simultaneously.International sourcing of tooling and other components.Interpersonal SkillsProactive, problem-solving, and team player.Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.Ability to work individually and collaboratively on time.Application ProcessYour application will include the following questions:Which of the following statements best describes your right to work in New Zealand?How many years' experience do you have as a mechanical engineer?
