About the Role The Ministry of Social Development's Finance Business Partnering Team provides critical support to our business operations by:
Providing timely, accurate financial and non-financial reportingProviding meaningful advice on opportunities and risks within the financial and business contextPerforming accurate month-end accounting processes including transactional work, forecasting and reviewConducting various ad-hoc analysis to demonstrate trends and assuranceWorking to be more agile and adaptableSupporting the development of financial capability of budget holders through regular training and coachingAbout You The Senior Management Accountant position supports the Director Business Partnering, Manager Finance, and the Finance Business Partners to provide strategic financial information across the various DCE business groups.
We are looking for applicants with a '1-team, can-do attitude', who are pro-active and have a willingness to learn new skills while sharing their knowledge already gained from current and previous career experiences.
All successful candidates will ideally have:
Relevant tertiary qualification in business, accounting, or equivalent experience.
Member of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand preferredA sound understanding of public sector financial management, with good knowledge of New Zealand's machinery of Government, State Sector Act 1988, and the Public Finance Act 1989 (including appropriation management)Substantial relevant management accounting and financial planning experience in a large organisation (preferably public sector)Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret financial information and experience in the preparation and delivery of integrated reporting of financial and non-financial resultsStrong understanding of accounting principles and best practice in a large organisation (preferably in the Public Sector)Experience in Government financial processes, particularly baseline managementDemonstrated experience in costing and reporting methodologies for both operating and capital and all appropriation typesProven ability to network effectively, negotiate well and influence people, and broker relationships with stakeholders including senior leadersProven experience providing sound advice to support managers to make informed decisions and minimise riskDemonstrated experience in data analysis and modelling with strong attention to detailAdvanced skills in Microsoft Excel and experience in working with a large integrated financial management information systemTo apply, click the 'Apply Now' button to upload your CV, Cover Letter and complete the online application form.
