If you're still reading, you likely have a decent understanding of the contours of this work: design, configuration, implementation and maintenance of the facility's Linux systems, including application integration, architecture, engineering and 24/7 support. Responsibilities include:
Producing new engineering solutions.Maintenance-related systems-admin functions.Standardizing and automating systems.Supporting the development of new applications, including patches, packages, and permissions.Disaster recovery/business continuity procedures.Deployments and upgrades.Managing the virtualization environment.You'll do your work in an ultra-supportive, relaxed environment as part of a close-knit team that likes to have fun while performing at the highest echelon. You've put your computer science or engineering degree to good use over the past four years in increasingly senior roles doing engineering or support of UNIX/Linux (Red Hat/Ubuntu) systems for large, complex systems — hopefully systems that support computing technologies used by researchers, especially in the medical field. You've had plenty of successful experience with advanced configurations such as high availability, clusters, virtualization, and performance tuning. Here's some more of what you've done and what you know:
Perl, Python, PHP, Bash, Ansible, Puppet, Chef, CFEngine, Red Hat Satellite, Git, Mercurial.Linking Linux systems to TCP/IP networks and to enterprise storage.Understanding appropriate use cases for SAN and NAS.Basic networking/internet technologies: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP.You take the support end of things with a serious commitment, understanding that lives are at stake. That earnestness comes from a part of your personality that's also the source of your rigorous analytical approach to solving problems. You're flexible in working independently or as part of a team — each has its advantages, and you're amenable to both.
