Position: Senior level Fire Engineer Location: Auckland Employment Type: Full-time, primarily office-based (1/2 days WFH) Package: NZD 110k – 145k + profit share Role Overview As a Senior Fire Engineer, you'll be responsible for developing both performance-based and prescriptive fire safety designs, including fire and smoke modelling, egress analysis, suppression, alarm and detection, external fire spread, and fire safety management. You'll ensure designs align with industry standards while pushing for innovative, performance-driven solutions that meet and exceed client expectations. Building strong relationships with clients and local authorities will be essential for gaining approval on projects. Additionally, you'll mentor and support junior engineers, fostering growth within the team. You'll be expected to uphold and actively contribute to creating an inclusive culture within the team. Key Responsibilities Fire Engineering Design: Create detailed fire safety designs using both prescriptive and performance-based methods. Independently handle tasks such as report writing, computer simulations, and providing fire safety solutions. Ensure designs are practical by maintaining a thorough understanding of construction techniques and materials. Project Management: Lead small to medium-sized projects, managing everything from fee proposals to client management. Oversee projects through their entire lifecycle, monitoring budgets and ensuring client satisfaction. For larger projects, act as the team leader and manage site inspections and construction progress. Carry out site inspections. Offer advice to stakeholders and resolve any project-related challenges. Client Focus: Gain an understanding of client needs and ensure designs deliver maximum value. Maintain strong client relationships, participate in meetings, and address compliance concerns. Identify opportunities to provide additional value-added services to clients. Technical Leadership: Provide guidance to fire engineers on technical aspects of projects. Mentor junior engineers, ensuring high standards in design practices. Lead efforts in quality control and assurance related to fire engineering. Team Contribution: Assist in preparing designs, proposals, and responses to fire safety queries. Contribute to the company's broader goals by supporting business objectives and participating in team presentations. Actively engage in personal and professional development while supporting a positive, well-balanced work environment. Qualifications And Experience MEng St or MEFE degree. CPEng or close to obtaining it. Minimum of 5 years' experience in fire engineering consultancy. Proficiency with fire modelling software like FDS, B-risk, and egress modelling tools. Understanding of local and national building codes, with experience in code-based design. Strong communication skills, including report writing and client interaction. Effective time management, problem-solving, and teamwork abilities. Computer software - Microsoft Office suite to an intermediate level / Bluebeam desirable.
