About the role
  
Our client is seeking to appoint their first New Zealand based Senior Legal Counsel.  You will report to a Melbourne based General Counsel and be a key member of the wider Australian based legal team. 
  
As the sole NZ based legal counsel you will provide the New Zealand business with excellent in country support but will also have workflow from the Australian business across the wider operational and functional divisions on a broad range of subject matters.  You will collaborate with stakeholders on a wide range of matters, including legal advice, contract negotiation, and strategic decision-making.  You will also be responsible for helping to establish a pro-active approach to legal risk and compliance across the business. 
  
This role will be primarily based in East Tamaki but with multiple sites you can also enjoy a mix of WFH and from sites more local to you.
 
This role is offered as a permanent fulltime position, with flexibility and autonomy.  You will enjoy occasional trans-Tasman travel (i.e. every month or so) as required.
What we're looking for A lawyer with at least 7 years' PQE ideally including approximately 4 years relevant general commercial law experience. You must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand and hold a current New Zealand legal practising certificate Experience in FMCG, property, competition, dispute resolution, IP, OHS, HR/IR or IT advantageous Experience in advising on legal matters in Australia and/or Asia would be welcome but not essential Innovative, enthusiastic and versatile with a proactive 'problem-solving' approach Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Professionalism, integrity, and ability to maintain confidentiality is essential About the business
