Te Ara Poutama, AUT's Faculty of Maori & Indigenous Development, aspires to lead the university as a faculty of excellence and innovation in teaching, research, and scholarship relevant to the communities we serve.
We are seeking applications for a Senior Lecturer or Lecturer position in our Te Reo team. Our team teaches a range of te reo Maori courses from beginners to advanced levels. We also deliver programmes within the School of Education, so we are particularly interested in applicants who have experience in the Education sector. Our curriculum includes marae visits at AUT's Nga Wai o Horotiu Marae so the successful candidate should be confident in tikanga Maori and marae protocols.
Duties include:
Teaching te reo Maori (can include absolute beginners to advanced courses).
Teaching Maori specific content (may include a variety of topics such as marae protocols, history of te reo Maori, waiata, etc).
Development of content and curriculum.
Supporting marae visits.
Contributing to kaupapa Maori events and projects.
Must hold a postgraduate qualification (Masters' ideally with a Maori specialisation and/or teaching specialisation).
Be able to work independently and within a team.
Be flexible (hours and working locations may vary).
Have experience with te reo curriculum development (advantageous).
Proven leadership experience (advantageous).

Our Te Reo team is led by Dr. Sandy Hata, who holds extensive experience in team management. With diverse backgrounds in teaching at wananga and university levels, our team is deeply committed to te reo Maori and tikanga Maori. We encourage each team member to actively contribute to teaching and learning initiatives. We promote a te reo Maori working environment where te reo Maori is embedded into our daily lives.

Salary Range:
Lecturer - $89,000 - $105,000 (appointment level and salary commensurate with skills and experience)
Senior Lecturer - $109,000 - $142,000 (appointment level and salary commensurate with skills and experience)
