We are now searching for an experienced Senior Labour Supervisor to be based at our Claim 431 Vineyard in Central Otago, New Zealand. The Senior Labour Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing daily vineyard operations, supervising a team of workers, ensuring productivity and safety standards are met, and ensuring the effective completion of all vineyard tasks. Reporting to the Vineyard Manager, the Senior Labour Supervisor will use their leadership skills, knowledge of vineyard practices, and the ability to coordinate and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
This is a full-time, permanent position.
Key Responsibilities IncludePruning (2-3 months each year)Vineyard and Vehicle OperationsMonitoring and recordingSupervision of StaffShoot thinning – ensures that there are an adequate number of shoots per cane and that there is appropriate spacing between each shoot as requiredBud rubbing – ensures all the low growth from the bottom of the vines is removed as requiredLeaf plucking – ensures any dead or rotten leaves are removed from the vine as requiredCluster thinning – ensures any excess clusters of grapes are removed if vines are too over-crowdedDe-Latering – ensures any lateral shoots are removed from around bunches of grapes as requiredWire Lifting – ensures all the wires are lifted onto the vines to keep the canopy upright as requiredWire dropping – ensures wires are dropped after pruning vinesEnsures other staff are trained to appropriate standards to assist with performing plant maintenance tasksPuts up and removes bird nets as and when requiredHand harvests as requiredTrains young vines as requiredWhat You'll BringMust have experience with a similar type of work such as horticulture/agriculture/viticultureTakes responsibility for their duties with little or no oversightIs able to make autonomous decisions relating to their area of responsibilityTakes responsibility for making decisions and takes actions relating to their workHas the ability to refer to others when assistance is necessaryOpen and direct – communicates in a clear, courteous mannerWillingly answers questions and concerns raised by othersThinks ahead, beyond the day-to-day – anticipating and planning for likely outcomes of current actionsConsiders the risks in a situation and ensures actions and solutions are safeFollows and complies with all standard procedures for work tasksAble to work on, and keep track of, several tasks at onceWell organised – meets deadlines & commitments even when interruptedShows attention to detail - notices and corrects errorsRespects people and treats them as individualsDoesn't assume that colleagues will have the same values or cultural identity as themWorks effectively and co-operatively with others; establishes and maintains good working relationshipsWhat You'll Have Access ToAccolade Wines will provide the ideal climate and a hand-picked rewards package for you to make a difference in our successful and growing business.
