About the role: Based in Richmond, the Tasman District Council is seeking an experienced person with a practical can-do attitude to join the Environmental Monitoring team.
The team is focused on collecting accurate data across a range of programmes and projects to support the Council and the wider community to live in balance with the environment.
We collect scientific data from a range of environments including groundwater, rivers and lakes, sea level, water quality, and meteorology.
About you: You will have the skills to manage the design, construction, and operation of monitoring assets in addition to managing data and operating electronic equipment (e.g., data loggers, remote control boats, drones).
You will lead network performance improvement, primarily for flood warning.
You will also carry out data processing, quality assurance, and have involvement in data analysis.
Your eye for detail will ensure your data input is accurate to support the Council's efforts in resource management, water allocation, compliance, engineering design, and flood warning—with information being used both locally and nationally.
This role will have equal amounts of field and office-based work.
We work in a variety of environments and terrains which can be physically demanding and challenging, so you need to be a capable swimmer and have a reasonable level of fitness.
This role would suit someone who enjoys the outdoors, likes working both autonomously and within a team, with good problem-solving skills and initiative.
We are open to those wanting to deepen their experience, or those who are exceptionally skilled as a field technician, with remuneration appropriate to the level of competency.
