Do you have a passion for technology and thrive on challenges? We're looking for a talented Infrastructure Development Engineer specialising in Land Mobile Radio (LMR) Design to join our dynamic team at the NZ Police Information and Communications Technology Service Centre, based in central Wellington, with working from home option.

The Police ICT Service Centre is here to save police officers time, enhance their safety and contribute to making New Zealand a safer community.

To prevent crime and crashes, Police needs information delivered to the front line that is reliable and able to be accessed anywhere, anytime. Making this happen is the daily work of our people in the ICT Service Centre. With our operational colleagues and partners, we create world leading solutions in radio, mobile, computer aided dispatch, intelligence, networks, and security.

We are looking for people that have the technical expertise but most importantly share our vision for innovation, partnerships and being part of a positive work environment.

NZ Police operate two legacy Land Mobile Radio LMR Networks. The Digital P25 Phase 1 Radio Networks (DRN) in the Auckland, Wellington and Canterbury districts and the Nationwide legacy analogue radio network, also known as the Land Mobile Radio Network (LMRN).

Under the Public Safety Network Programme (PSN), Police will transition from existing Mission Critical (MC) voice services to the latest commercially provided MC services. The Public Safety Network means Police and emergency services will have a single digital radio network that is encrypted, secure and with resilience features enabling frontline responders to communicate with each other even when connectivity to their communications centre is lost, for example in a significant disaster.

This role is responsible for supporting and maintaining both the existing LMR network and the new PSN network. This role will report into the Radio Networks Manager on a day-to-day basis but be responsible for working with both Radio network BAU project managers and Public Safety Project Managers.

This role is responsible for development activities to ensure the Police existing radio network infrastructure and user devices remain reliable and to support the build migration to the PSN Radio Network.

You will have high levels of motivation and have experience working as part of a team as a Senior Infrastructure Development Engineer. The current radio team consists of 5 dedicated resources. In doing so you will have developed your engagement skills at all levels of organisations and be able to build networks and trust.

This is a dynamic and challenging position, and the successful applicant will need to be able to demonstrate the following:

Key Accountabilities:

Extensive experience in LMR Radio infrastructure design and radio frequency planning.

Experience in evaluating vendor LMR site and system designs and co-siting impacts with existing services.

Fault management and reporting.

Working with field installation and maintenance engineers.

Experience with LMR mobile and portable configuration and testing.

Experience in radio coverage prediction evaluation and use of prediction software tools to evaluate coverage drive test data.

Ability to learn new technologies while on the job.

Experience in working in both project delivery and BAU teams and working to deadlines.

Systems design - delivered effective detailed systems designs for environments that take cognisance of relevant technical strategies, policies, standards and practices (including security) and the commercial impacts thereof.

What you'll bring:

The ability to work well both independently and collaboratively.

Excellent interpersonal and people skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Knowledge of Agile methods and techniques desirable.

A significant level of radio service experience in operations and/or development environments within large scale organisations.

What qualifications you will have:

Bachelor of Engineering or NZCE (Telecom) with 5 years radio industry operations or development experience.

This role is based in Wellington with flexible options available. This role is set at Individual Contributor level, meaning your key purpose is to deliver or enable others to deliver Our Business.
