My client is a well-run, genuinely friendly and successful practice which has thrived for over 15 years by getting the right mix of people and projects. They enjoy tackling the more curly cases and have developed solid relationships across the industry to make this easier. A director is ready to dial back on duties in 2025 and we need someone with the same passion for finding worthwhile solutions, ability to lead technically and work with the team.
Senior Environmental Planner Role: This role is all about understanding and leading, bringing your understanding of the RMA, LGA, legal, operation and commercial constraints and opportunities, then as a trusted advisor, engaging all parties for a better solution.
At work, you will find yourself one day out on a river, looking at the impact of gravel extraction, talking to quarry owners and operators, the next day developing an insightful and effective consenting strategy. Civil construction consents, statutory planning, iwi consultation and hearing process management, will all be in your diary.
Projects: These projects are at the core of New Zealand; helping our country make the best use of natural resources being part of building a good future. Projects will include:
Disaster recovery
Natural materials, aggregates, roading and landfill
Civil construction
Residential and commercial development
Iwi consultation
Energy and Innovation
Requirements: For this role, you will need to have a desire to tackle challenges, learn and lead. Very much a consultancy position, you will get to build and share your understanding with all parties, provide insight, clarity and wisdom. You will be a willing collaborator, engaging with other professionals for a better outcome, yet prepared stand up when required, defend your position and support your client.
Clients are a particularly broad mix from contractors to corporate enterprises and you will enjoy sitting down with any of them to understand their world and help them understand the bigger picture.
Qualifications: For a position like this, experience is the most important element in the mix. Typically we would expect:
a degree in Environmental/Civil/Natural Resources/Geography/Geology typically recognised by the NZ Planning Institute (NZPI)
minimum of 5 years experience of consent processing and management
a desire to expand your technical and maybe your people leadership skills at a senior level
a passion for infrastructure and natural resources.

A solid pipeline of profitable and engaging work
A bright future in the sector, this company and your career
Real support to help you along the way.
Potential directorship
