HortNZ is looking for a motivated and experienced policy advisor to join our environment policy team.
You will use your expertise to advocate for growers' interest.
The role focuses on Resource Management Planning at the Regional and District level, including all matters relevant to horticulture but with a particular focus on freshwater planning, freshwater science and grower management practices.
You will write submissions, scope evidence, coordinate experts, present at council hearings, and represent the horticulture sector in mediations and Environment Court.
You will proactively develop relationships with growers, product groups, the wider primary sector, and regulators.
You will need a relevant tertiary qualification, the ability to think critically, and enthusiasm for supporting New Zealand growers now and into the future.
You will have knowledge of the Resource Management Act ideally at the regional level coupled with relevant science or planning expertise.

Person Profile: Relevant policy or scientific expertise Knowledge of freshwater policy and planning May have broader policy and planning experience.
Excellent written communications skills Ability to translate policy and technical jargon into everyday language for growers.
Ability to work to tight deadlines and juggle multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to travel domestically from time to time (sometimes overnight) A relevant tertiary qualification You do not need to meet all the role requirements to apply.

This role involves overnight travel to meet with growers and Councils in the North and South Island growing regions and occasional travel to the HortNZ office in Wellington.
