Details of the offer

Senior Engineering Manager (BE) - Visual Suite Platform - Remote across ANZ Full-time
Recruitment type: Permanent
Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.
Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.
Where and how you can work
Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.
About the team
The Visual Suite Platform (VSP) Team is the bedrock of backend and machine learning support for the feature work done across our visual work suite products. There will be 20+ engineers in this team across both backend and machine learning, and will take on a steady mix of project work from our ongoing roadmap, as well as the maintenance of our evergreen services.
While we have shipped world-class products, there is still much to be done. We have a packed upcoming schedule of features that will take the Visual Suite to new heights. Expect a strong focus on both AI/ML integration, interactivity, and other power user features.
About the role
As a Senior Engineering Manager, you'll work closely with leaders across specialties, teams, and groups to set a vision, and rally teams to deliver it. You'll develop & implement strategies that take advantage of our team's strengths to maximize efficiency and velocity. You'll invest in the people around you and scale to support one of Canva's key strategic areas.
At the moment, this role is focused on:
Working with senior & staff level engineers to get a deep understanding of the problem domain
Building alignment & momentum towards a common goal across teams, groups, and timezones
Partnering with product and design for road mapping, planning resourcing and goal setting
Growing a team vertically & horizontally - invest in our people & add new ones
Creating a collaborative & open team environment, where everyone can do the best work of their lives
Keeping situational awareness across multiple complicated workstreams & keeping the broader company informed
Connecting the dots from now to our long-term product vision
Ruthlessly prioritizing - keeping us focused on the critical problems, and keeping the noise away
Designing, developing and deploying solutions and hands-on software development
Facilitating knowledge sharing and optimally advocating for engineering needs
Modeling initiative and ownership in achieving goals, improving processes and solutions
Finding opportunities for cross-team collaboration to work on new insights and improvements that help achieve our goals
You're probably a match if you have:
Proven success leading multiple squads of engineers, including team leads
Ability to run multiple streams of work, rallying a wide range of people, teams, and groups towards a common goal
Balancing short-term pragmatism with a steadfast commitment to building the right thing for our long-term goals
Track record of empowering other leaders and building a diverse team, while growing future leaders
Experience delivering a product from early stages to a full launch in a tightly constrained environment
Experience working in large distributed cloud environments (ideally AWS)
Commercial experience in a software development environment, ideally with experience in building internal/external SDKs or APIs
Firmly grounded computer science and engineering fundamentals including asynchronous programming, data structures, solution design, architecture, and design patterns
Passion for performance debugging and benchmarking
Good written and verbal communication skills
What's in it for you?
Achieving our crazy big goals motivates us to work hard - and we do - but you'll experience lots of moments of magic, connectivity, and fun woven throughout life at Canva, too. We also offer a stack of benefits to set you up for every success in and outside of work.
Here's a taste of what's on offer:
Equity packages - we want our success to be yours too
Inclusive parental leave policy that supports all parents & carers
An annual Vibe & Thrive allowance to support your wellbeing, social connection, office setup & more
Flexible leave options that empower you to be a force for good, take time to recharge and support you personally
