Job Description About the team
The Visual Suite Platform (VSP) Team is the backbone of backend and machine learning support for our visual work suite products. The team consists of 20+ engineers focusing on project work from our ongoing roadmap and maintaining our evergreen services.
While we have shipped world-class products, there is still much to be done. We have a packed schedule of features that will take the Visual Suite to new heights, with a strong focus on AI/ML integration and other power user features.
About the role
As a Senior Engineering Manager, you'll work closely with leaders across specialties, teams, and groups to set a vision and rally teams to deliver it. You'll develop and implement strategies that maximize efficiency and velocity while investing in the people around you to support one of Canva's key strategic areas.
Qualifications At the moment, this role is focused on:
Working with senior & staff level engineers to understand the problem domain deeply.
Building alignment & momentum towards a common goal across teams, groups, and timezones.
Partnering with product and design for road mapping, planning resources, and goal setting.
Growing a team both vertically & horizontally, investing in our people & adding new members.
Creating a collaborative & open team environment for everyone to do their best work.
Maintaining situational awareness across multiple workstreams and keeping the broader company informed.
Connecting the dots from now to our long-term product vision.
Ruthlessly prioritizing to keep focus on critical problems.
Designing, developing, and deploying solutions with hands-on software development.
Facilitating knowledge sharing and advocating for engineering needs.
Modeling initiative and ownership in achieving goals and improving processes.
Finding opportunities for cross-team collaboration to achieve our goals.
You're probably a match if you have:
Proven success in leading multiple squads of engineers.
Ability to manage multiple streams of work and rally diverse teams towards a common goal.
Experience delivering a product from early stages to full launch in a constrained environment.
Experience in large distributed cloud environments (ideally AWS).
Commercial experience in a software development environment, particularly in building SDKs or APIs.
Strong computer science fundamentals, including asynchronous programming and design patterns.
Passion for performance debugging and benchmarking.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
