About the team Transpower's Grid Delivery division ensures our grid assets continue to reliably deliver electricity to Aotearoa. The Primary Assets Operational Engineering team, within Grid Delivery, provides expert guidance in identifying and resolving primary asset issues, conducting technical investigations, developing standard maintenance procedures and delivering improvement recommendations. This is achieved through a deep understanding of equipment, from design and operating principles to practical insights into how assets perform in the field. This expertise underpins the standards for asset care and ensures decisive operational support when required. About the opportunity We're looking for a Senior Engineer to join our Primary Assets team in Auckland, Wellington, or Christchurch. In this role, you will provide engineering support for primary assets across the Transpower fleet, utilising your technical expertise to deliver solutions and conduct incident diagnostics on assets. You will ensure that our approach to condition assessment, maintenance, and replacement of grid assets aligns with our performance objectives. Additionally, you will mentor and share knowledge with other engineers in the team. An interest in power cable operational engineering will be highly valued, given the focus on this asset class. About you Driven by natural curiosity, you will delve into comprehensive investigations and analysis to uncover the root causes of station faults and asset failures. Your leadership in change and improvement initiatives will be crucial in minimising future asset risks. Through effective communication with colleagues, clients, consultants, and contractors, you will champion a customer-centric approach, ensuring our grid station assets are optimally designed and fully functional for their intended purposes. As a senior engineer, you will be on call (approximately every six weeks) to provide technical expertise and primary asset advice to the National Coordination Centre, National Grid Operations Centre, service providers, service delivery stakeholders and senior managers. To be considered, your CV and covering letter will demonstrate: Degree in Electrical engineering Chartered member of Engineering New Zealand or equivalent 8+ years of experience in the electrical industry Sound knowledge of power system operational processes and tools Sound knowledge of the design, maintenance, operation and condition assessment of high voltage power cables and substation primary equipment Proven track record to work across different stakeholders and business units Highly desirable, but not essential: Knowledge of electricity regulations and codes Experience working in an MV/HV utility Join us at Transpower Aotearoa is powered by the people who work here.
