Rail & Maritime Transport (Manufacturing, Transport & Logistics)We are currently looking for an experienced Second Engineer holding a Class 1 qualification for our cement vessel, Aotearoa Chief, operating on the NZ coast. The Engineer is responsible for the mechanical and electrical performance of the vessel's propulsion, power generation, ancillary systems and cargo plant.Some of the key responsibilities and accountabilities of the position include:Understudy of Chief Engineer role and relieving as Chief Engineer when required;Keeping Chief Engineer updated on status of Machinery and equipment;Ensuring all engineering functions are in compliance with classification society, MNZ, MPI and HSWA;Efficient operation, maintenance and repair of all machinery onboard including deck, cargo and communication equipment;Maintaining adequate inventory of spares, tools and equipment, ordering of spares and stores to keep vessel operational;Carrying out watchkeeping duties in either a manned or periodically unmanned engine room;Reporting on ship maintenance using the PMS system (AMOS);Reporting defects and failures as required by the reporting systems and SMS;Supervision, management and training of engine room personnel;Ensuring all health and safety procedures are complied with and ensure personnel work safely at all times;Supervision of contractors and ensure they work safely at all times;Assisting with bunkering of fuel and lubricating oils;Training of cadets and providing guidance to ships personnel.The successful candidate will have proven experience in effectively implementing the requirements of Safety Management Systems, ensuring the highest safety standards are maintained.A good understanding and working knowledge of electrical systems and electronics is required as the maintenance and repair of these systems is carried out by the engineering team.Candidates must have MNZ MEC1 Marine Engineer qualification, hold current valid STCW ancillary certificates and a valid Medical Certificate of fitness for seafarers.For consideration, you will need to be eligible to work in New Zealand.
