We are looking for an experienced design engineer with a pavement engineering background to join part of our busy Technical Services team based in Christchurch.The primary responsibility for this role is to provide engineering and design solutions for new pavements as well as pavement rehabilitation and resurfacing and management of specific design projects, delivering on contract requirements.Within this team, you will form part of the regional Technical Services group, and you'll liaise with other Downer design engineers and graduates across the country to help you deliver your work. This will include mentoring emerging professionals in the development of their personal and professional capabilities.You will be expected to own your design projects and provide adequate operational and technical support during the build phase. Providing support to Contract and Project Managers, Supervisors and Council Officers with calculations, completeness of data, and adherence to testing, analysis, design or contractual requirements will all be part of your day. You will also present and communicate designs to the Transport Services team and encourage a collaborative approach for knowledge sharing.Nga pukenga matua | Important SkillsAs someone who is keen to roll up their sleeves to work "hands on" in a collaborative way with the wider Downer operation; you will be happy to involve construction teams right from the conceptualisation of a new design.You will also have:Proven industry experience and knowledge - minimum 5 years in a similar technical role.Effective communication skills and ability to effectively communicate complex technical issues in a clear and rigorous manner to maximize impact.Curious minded, passion, drive and enthusiasm with a high degree of self-motivation.Extensive knowledge of pavement design and industry best practices, including experience with minor civil and structural design, geometric design and construction practices.Relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering, Design or equivalent.Good problem-solving abilities relevant to both technical challenges and team management.The ability to role model the Downer values of Excellence, Collaboration, Courage, and Integrity.Strong interpersonal skills applicable to internal and external relationships.A full Class 1 Driver's Licence.Ability to travel.Advantageous to have:Experience with RAMM, AutoCAD and pavement analysis tools such as CIRCLY and Austpads.Ko wai matou | Our OrganisationWant to know more about what it is like to work at Downer?
