The New Zealand Government is seeking a Senior Data Engineer for NZTA | Waka Kotahi to help embed data principles and deliver a data-driven vision. This role is part of Te Aukaha | Digital, which supports NZTA's digital transformation by providing quality data, information, and security services. The team designs and implements new digital solutions to keep pace with technological change in the land transport system. In this role you can expect to have the responsibilities: Design and create systems to manage and convert raw data into usable information for analytical and insights teams. Ensure smooth, efficient, and safe data flow from source to destination. Contribute to the Data Engineering Centre of Excellence by defining standards and best practices. Support, coach, and train others in the chapter. Contribute to the Technical Business Analysts Centre of Excellence. Support the design, build, and deployment of data solutions for AI, ML, and BI. This role requires you to have: 5+ years of experience in data engineering within a production environment. Advanced knowledge of SQL, Python, R, or Scala. Experience with Data Lakehouse and medallion architecture. Proficiency with ETL/ELT tools such as Data Factory. Advanced analytical tools such as Databricks. Deep experience with Azure cloud services and big data ecosystems. Excellent business acumen and interpersonal skills. Ability to describe business use cases and data management concepts. Ability to translate technical and business languages. Fast learner with the ability to adopt proven standards and practices.
