Interested in a varied and busy regional port role? The New Zealand Customs Service is recruiting full-time Senior Customs Officer, based in our Tauranga Office. In this role, you will be identifying and preventing potential security and community risks coming in and out of New Zealand. As a Senior Customs Officer, you will have a high level of integrity, honesty and discretion. You will also be interacting with a wide range of people from all walks of life.
As part of the wider Maritime Group and in collaboration with the Port Manager, based in our Tauranga office, you will have the opportunity to:
Process passengers/crew and goods in/out of Aotearoa which can include search activitiesFacilitate legitimate trade and travel, collect import and export dataIntercept contraband (such as drugs and weapons), investigate and prosecute offencesInspect cargo and mail, assess and collect duty/GST on imports.Conduct and lead operational activity within the Port and Maritime environmentsLead business discovery within the Port and Maritime environments. Understanding the supply chain and supply chain risks and vulnerabilities will be a critical function with the maritime groupWorking as part of a small tight knit and busy team, you will cover everything from marine (all craft types - commercial, yachts, cruise ships and fishing vessels), all Service Delivery functions, a large excise clientele, inspections, and private flights. The Salary band for this role is $64,608 - $81,474. Mid-range for this role is $74,223. Salary is dependent on your experience. There is also an additional allowance of $9,750.
Ko wai koe | About you… We are looking for someone who wants to take the next step in their career who is a team player, have an action-oriented approach and be willing to learn. You will have high levels of integrity, honesty and discretion. In addition, you will have good communication skills and enjoy interacting with people. A key attribute to this role is also being able to lead and mentor staff. The successful person will need to be available to work a roster which covers weekends, nights and public holidays on a rostered and on-call basis.
