Korero mo te turanga - About the role We are excited to announce we have two newly created Senior Customer Regulatory Specialist role within our Crown Property team.
These roles are part of a recent change initiative aimed at fostering closer relationships with our customers and developing a more strategic approach to managing the Crown property across New Zealand.
It's a unique opportunity to contribute to the responsible stewardship and sustainable use of Crown Land for the benefit of both current and future generations.
As a key member of our Crown Property team, you will ensure that property portfolios are managed in compliance with legislative and maintenance requirements.
A significant part of your role will involve collaborating closely with Iwi, particularly in the management of Treaty settlement properties.
Building and maintaining strong, respectful partnerships with Iwi is a priority for us as we work together to honour treaty obligations and enhance the value and utility of Crown Land.
The Team for Land and Waterways: In this role, you will be part of a team responsible for overseeing reactive maintenance, processing complex applications, and managing compliance for a wide range of activities such as agriculture, forestry, and mining.
You will also manage contractors delivering services across the Crown property portfolio.
The Land and Waterways team handles the management of leases, renewals, and ongoing property oversight through site inspections and consistent communication with leaseholders.
This includes managing Crown land purchases and Treaty acquisitions, which require a deep understanding of Treaty settlements and land management to provide accurate advice to Treaty partners and serve as a key link between Crown Property and our valued partners and customers.
We are seeking candidates with experience in fast-paced, customer-focused environments where statutory decision-making is a regular part of your role.
You will have a strong grasp of system workflows and business processes, along with proficiency in contract and project management.
The ability to perform effectively in a high-pressure operational setting is critical, as is the capacity for prompt, consistent decision-making.
Significant prior experience in land management, forestry, mining, contracting, compliance, inspection, or asset management, together with hands-on experience including scheduled and planned maintenance is essential to succeed in this role.
Our portfolio is challenging and diverse, and your role will involve travelling to undertake site inspections, often in isolated and rural areas.
He pukenga tou - Skills & Experience * 7 – 10 years experience in land management, forestry, mining, contracting, compliance, inspection, or asset management.
* Significant hands-on experience in land management, including scheduled and planned maintenance, as well as asset management.
* Contract management, administration, and project management experience ensuring the successful delivery of services and projects.
* In-depth knowledge of government legislation, including national policy statements and local authority regulations, is critical for ensuring compliance and informed decision-making.
* A strong understanding of land-related laws and regulations, particularly the Resource Management Act 1991, Biosecurity Act 1993, Forests Act 1949, and relevant national policy statements * Proficiency in stakeholder engagement and relationship building, especially in environments involving multiple stakeholders, including Iwi and government agencies.
* Extensive experience with Treaty settlements and Maori-Crown relations, alongside a deep understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi, strong Iwi engagement skills, knowledge of relevant legislation, and a background in law, public policy, or land management * Exceptional communication skills, along with the ability to adapt flexibly to various tasks and scenarios.
* Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to apply logical reasoning under pressure, with the ability to make quick, sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
* A valid unrestricted New Zealand Driver's Preferred, but not essential: * A relevant qualification in contract or project management, or a related discipline.
