Auckland Council's Governance & Engagement Department has an opportunity for a permanent full-time Senior Customer & Citizen Engagement Specialist. This role is based in the Auckland city centre with some flexibility to work from home or a Council hub.
Reporting to the Citizen Engagement Manager, you will advise on technical design and delivery of engagement activities across Auckland, while aligning yourself with the department or organisation strategy.
You will provide support and have your pulse on multiple programmes of work. The team ensures citizens have a strong voice and are key in shaping Auckland, through increased transparency, access to information and greater participation from diverse communities of Auckland.
Some examples of what you could expect to work on:
• Specific regional statutory consultations e.g. local board plans, policies and projects of significance
• Supporting & managing the Auckland Conversations Programme, including organising the events and liaising with business partners
• Developing the team's digital tools, templates and processes.
We are looking for solid experience leading and delivering public engagement you will have sound political acumen and a good understanding of the functions of democratic systems and the machinery of government.
You'll have the ability to think strategically, guide stakeholders, develop and provide advice on a range of issues. You will be able to work both autonomously and as part of a fast-paced, performance-driven team.
As a senior member of the team, you'll have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence, lead and communicate with senior management and work collaboratively across the council family and stakeholder groups.
You will also have a strong understanding of Te Ao Maori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations.
We are specifically looking for:
• 7-8 years' experience in a range of stakeholder, community engagement or opinion-related research roles.
• Demonstrated ability to work at a strategic level within an organisation and at a high level within the insights or engagement industry.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships and manage complex projects with a collaborative approach
